Amit Shah, Union Home Minister, took a step toward launching the study of technical courses like engineering and medicine in Hindi and other Indian languages by launching several textbooks in Madhya Pradesh. A task group was established in this regard earlier after the Parliament passed a resolution outlining its recommendations. These recommendations were taken into consideration when creating the syllabus and publishing and launching the books.
The benefits of studying these subjects in Hindi and other Indian languages were also explained. With this step, a big effort will be fulfilled in the minds of those youths who want to become professional doctors and engineers after studying these subjects, but due to a lack of grip on the English language, their dreams get frustrated and the emerging youths, remain.
Now, when these youths will read these mysterious subjects in their language, they will not only be able to understand the things mentioned in them immediately, but due to their foreign relations with the English language, they will be able to delve deeper and deeper into the topics which used to interest them till now. Now they will be able to discuss with others the contexts and also share information. The books which used to make their mind feel heavy after seeing them, now they will not mind keeping their eyes on those books with a great interest for hours. The bottom line is that as soon as the tone of the language changes, everything will appear clearer and lighter.
This is a commendable step that will also increase the capability of future young India and will not only change the picture of small towns and villages but due to an increase in the number of capable people, the country’s economy and GDP will also increase. Due to this, the status and position of India in the world are sure to increase.
Well, so far so good. But, when we have decided to move forward in this direction in a calculated manner, have we foreshadowed some of the problems that may arise in this regard or not? Have the answers to some of the questions standing on the left face been discovered or not? If the answers to these questions and the solutions to these problems are not discovered in advance, then all the efforts of studying these languages will be futile.
what are these problems?
The foremost and first problem is that of technical words or terminology. Have measures been taken that what should be the correct, simple, and accurate Hindi words for the technical words or terminology of the concerned subject? Have such words been discovered? The full benefit of studying in Indian languages will be available only when their books are written in a colloquial common language and not in a difficult language with Sanskritised similar vocabulary. It is also often seen that the language of most of the translated books sold in the market does not impress the reader. If the language of the new syllabus also remains like this, then the fear of sabotage in such efforts increases. That’s why the language of such books should be simple, clear, accessible, and understandable.
another, Are qualified writers or doctors-engineers, etc. easily available to write books on these subjects? It is possible to write comprehensible books on any subject only when the author is either an expert in that subject or has a great interest in that subject or is a very good translator who has been given full time to write without hurrying.
third, The children who study these subjects in English will not face any competition with those who study in Hindi.
fourth, Often, doctors or other professionals contact other experts of the world through the internet in case of any professional problem during work. But, how can people who have become doctors, etc. after studying in Indian languages, do so because they know Hindi, etc., but foreigners do not? They can only understand English which has become the international language of communication.
These are some of the points which are very practical and important. Without making full arrangements for these, the situation will be called the same way – three leaves of the same cover or two and a half kos for nine days. The goal can be achieved in the true sense only by moving ahead after making complete preparations on these.
